Freshly baked bread delivered right to your doorstep?  You had me at fresh bread!  In this review, we tested the loaves and pastries from Wildgrain, a popular delivery service.  Introducing the first bake-from-frozen membership for sourdough bread, artisanal pastries, and fresh pasta.  With this membership, you can enjoy freshly baked goods and pasta at your convenience, straight from the freezer.

There's nothing quite like indulging and enjoying freshly baked bread at home, but it isn't always practical to bake or buy fresh bread and pastries.  Fortunately, Wildgrain is a food subscription service that can help with that.  If you like to bake and like cinnamon rolls, you should try our recipe, which is better than Cinnabon Cinnamon Rolls.  You will need your favorite kitchen stand mixer.  For me, it's my Nutrimill Artiste Mixer; Learn why I love it.

What are the other products offered by Wildgrain?

The reviews for Wildgrain have been exceptional, with many people raving about its quality. However, this is different from your typical meal delivery service. It's all about high-quality bread and pastries. I chose three loaves of bread, English muffins, brioche buns, croissants, and even brownies from a Wildgrain Bakery Box to the test.

So, what is Wildgrain exactly?

It's a food subscription box that focuses on delivering fresh bread, pastries, and pasta to your doorstep. To source the best organic, non-GMO, and sustainably-produced ingredients for their bread and pastry dough, Wildgrain partners with small, family-owned bakeries across the United States. Some partner bakeries are located in California, Oregon, Washington, and Colorado but are also constantly expanding their partnerships to other regions. Each partner bakery is carefully selected based on its commitment to quality and sustainability. Wildgrain works closely with them to ensure that every product they deliver meets their high standards.

What are the terms of the Wildgrain subscription?

Wildgrain Review: A Convenient Way to Try Locally Sourced Baked Goods

We tried Wildgrain because we wanted to write a detailed review.  Wildgrain is a subscription service that delivers an assortment of bread, pastries, and pasta sourced from small bakeries right to your door every month. Like other meal delivery services like CookUnity, you sign up for a membership and receive monthly deliveries of expertly curated carbs. The subscription continues until you opt to skip a shipment or cancel altogether, which Wildgrain makes exceptionally easy. The company even sends reminders four days before charging your card each month in case you want to make changes.

Each item arrives frozen and should be kept frozen until you're ready to bake and serve. The items are individually packaged, and you can reuse the bags after the bread has been baked and cooled.

Review: How we tested Wildgrain

To test Wildgrain, we ordered a one-month subscription to their Bakery Box. When it arrived, the items were still frozen. The box contained three loaves of sourdough bread, English muffins, brioche buns, croissants, and a small tray of brownies. Keep in mind that next month's box will have a different selection. I put all the items in my freezer until we were ready to eat them. The instructions for baking were on the back of each package. We assessed the products based on convenience and flavor.

Baking the bread was simple and required no thawing. The crust was crunchy, and the center was tender and soft. The flavor of each bread was incredible, but the brownies were  my favorite.

The brownies were quick and easy to bake. They were gooey and flavorful, with the perfect combination of crusty edges and a soft center.

The English muffins were dense but had a wonderful flavor. I paired them with butter and grape jam for breakfast. The brioche buns were on the drier side and crackly on top, but their sweet flavor was absolutely delicious. I loved using them for burgers.

During our review, we found that although all the contents of the Wildgrain Bakery Box were easy to bake and absolutely delicious, the croissants were the highlight. I couldn't believe that croissants from the freezer could produce such a beautifully golden final product. They were buttery and flavorful, with the perfect balance of flakiness and tenderness.

Pros

  • Products can easily be stored and bake
  • Breads and pastries are delicious and lovely
  • Subscription can easily be paused or canceled at any time

Cons

  • There are no options to substitute
  • A little pricey
